What is Google Lens? Google Lens announced at Google I/O 2017

Google Lens is the intelligent camera app that can actually read, understand and interact with the information within your photos.
Google said its new Lens app will be available later this year. Google's CEO Sunder Pichai made the announcement about Google Lens at his keynote speech in the Google I/O 17.
Google Lens is a super-powered version of Google Googles
At launch, Google Lens will be implemented into Google Assistant and Google Photos.
Google Lens is an AI-powered technology that uses your smartphone camera and deep machine learning to not only detect an object but understand what it detects and offer actions based on what it sees.
To translate something, you need only snap a picture of it and call on Google Lens’ smarts.
Google Lens Turns Your Phone Camera Into an AI-Powered Visual Search Tool
Just point your camera at a place you’re interested in, and Google Lens will scan it.
Google Lens lets you snap a picture of just about anything, and then it will tell you everything you need to know about it—during the keynote, Sundar Pichai demonstrated this feature by identifying a common lily.
Only need to snap a picture of the password label on the router and it will automatically connect.
Buying tickets to shows and movies on our phones is already pretty effortless, but Google Lens wants to make it a complete breeze. If you walk down a street and see a marquee that shows a band that’s playing, Google Lens will spring to life as soon as you snap a picture.

Amazon is rolling out Alexa inside the Amazon App for iPhones

Amazon is bringing its intelligent personal assistant Alexa to the iPhone right inside of the Amazon app.

There will be a microphone icon near the top of the screen Inside the Amazon App for iOS.

You can press that microphone icon to call up Alexa. You’ll be able to ask the assistant almost anything you’d normally be able to ask through a device like the amazon Echo.

i-e You can ask it to make purchases for you, look up facts, or control smart home products.

But still there is a major difference between Apple's Siri and Amazon's Alexa. Since Siri is built-in with the operating system we can talk to siri without opening any app, but for speaking with Amazon Alexa, we have to open the Amazon App first.

Amazon says this new feature begins rolling out today and should be available to all US users by next week.

Ultrashort light pulses for fast 'lightwave' computers

Extremely short, configurable "femtosecond" pulses of light demonstrated by an international team could lead to future computers that run up to 100,000 times faster than today's electronics.

The researchers, including engineers at the University of Michigan, showed that they could control the peaks within the laser pulses and also twist the light.

The method moves electrons faster and more efficiently than electrical currents—and with reliable effects on their quantum states. It is a step toward so-called "lightwave electronics" and, in the more distant future, quantum computing

Interesting Facts about Zealandia - New continent discovered under New Zealand

It is also known as the New Zealand continent or Tasmantis

It is a nearly submerged continental fragment that sank after breaking away from Australia 60–85 Ma (million years) ago, having separated from Antarctica between 85 and 130 Ma ago.

It may have been completely submerged about 23 Ma ago, and most of it (93%) remains submerged beneath the Pacific Ocean.

Zealandia supports substantial inshore fisheries and contains New Zealand's largest gas field, near Taranaki.

With a total area of approximately 4,920,000 km2 it is the world's largest current microcontinent, more than twice the size of the next-largest microcontinent and more than half the size of the Australian continent.

Zealandia is largely made up of two nearly parallel ridges, separated by a failed rift, where the rift breakup of the continent stops and becomes a filled graben.

Volcanism on Zealandia has also taken place repeatedly in various parts of the continental fragment before, during and after it rifted away from the supercontinent Gondwana.

Although Zealandia has shifted approximately 6,000 km (3,700 mi) to the northwest with respect to the underlying mantle from the time when it rifted from Antarctica, recurring intracontinental volcanism exhibits magma composition similar to that of volcanoes in previously adjacent parts of Antarctica and Australia.

New Caledonia lies at the northern end of the ancient continent, while New Zealand rises at the plate boundary that bisects it.

And, 94 per cent of Zealandia is below the Pacific Ocean. The bits that aren't waterlogged are commonly referred to as New Zealand and New Caledonia.

The newly found hidden continent Zealandia sits to the east of Australia.

Scientists have confirmed the existence of the eighth Continent named as Zealandia.

Zealandia also includes parts of Australian territory, Lord Howe and Norfolk islands.

The scientists, mostly from the official New Zealand research body GNS Science, said Zealandia was once part of the Gondwana super-continent but broke away about 100 million years ago.

The area, about the same size as the Indian subcontinent, is believed to have broken away from Gondwana many millions of years ago.
